Anantnag, May 26: In what could be termed as a serious lapse in the standard operating procedure of a vital health facility, a security guard has been assigned to check the blood pressure of patients arriving in the emergency/causality room of Government Medical Hospital Anantnag.
The issue came to fore after an attendant shared the clip with reporters in which a security guard can be seen checking blood pressure of a patient while the doctor on duty was busy with other patients.
An insider in the hospital claimed that the hospital witnesses’ huge rush of patients even during evening/night hours and as such an incident is not uncommon.
"The emergency room of GMC witnesses’ good flow of patients after evening hours too, it sometimes becomes difficult for a doctor to examine all the vitals of a patient since mostly critical patients arrive at this facility not only from the villages and towns of Anantnag but from Kulgam as well as Shopian parts. Either the other district and Subdistrict hospitals need to be made capable to cater to every kind of patient or the staff at GMC needs to be increased, " said an employee of GMC Anantnag on the condition of anonymity.
When the Principal GMC Anantnag, Dr Syed Tariq Qureshi, was apprised about the incident, he said, "I have received the complaint about this issue. We have started investigation into this lapse. There is adequate staff available round the clock in our health facility to assist the on duty doctors. "
