Jammu, May 05: Apni Party (AP) Thursday staged a protest demonstration against the NHAI for taking over possession of the land from the people in Raya Morh with lowest price.
A party statement said that led by the provincial president Jammu, Manjit Singh, the AP leaders and workers assembled here and protested against the NHAI and staged a dharna against the authorities for not providing enough compensation to the people whose land is being taken over for highway construction/widening.
Manjit Singh said that the NHAI has offered very less amount to the people whose land comes under the highway and people are allegedly being forced to take the compensation for the land which is worth crores.
“The compensations must be equal in all the areas and they must be at par with the market value. Forcing people to accept the compensation as per the wishes of NHAI will not be tolerated,” he said.
He said that the Apni Party will not allow NHAI to act like East India Company and take over the lands of the people and make them landless by offering them less in comparison to the market value.
“The NHAI had adopted a discriminatory approach by giving compensation for the land to the people of one area more and less in another area,” he said.
He further said that the people will come on the roads if the NHAI did not review its policy.
“The people should be given an appropriate price of the land which has value in crores but the people are not listened to by the NHAI authorities,” he said, quoting the concerns of the people.
He said that “The land has commercial value and the people who run their business have to abandon it and hence, the NHAI should consider the poor financial condition of the people as their source of earning is being snatched and compensation is not given them appropriate which is complete injustice with the owners of the land/shopkeepers/ and others.
