Annual Day cum World Veterinary Day - 2022 celebrated in SKUAST-Kashmir

Srinagar,July 27: Annual Day cum World Veterinary Day 2022 was celebrated in SKUAST Kashmir main campus Shalimar. This event signifies the importance of veterinary profession and its contribution for sustainable societal development. In this impressive event,Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST Kashmir, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai was the Chief Guest and Dr M. M. Madusudan, Colonel, Remount Veterinary Corps; Field Unit Srinagar was the Guest of Honor. 
Other dignitaries present in the event included Prof. M. A. A. Siddique, Dean Students Welfare Officer, Prof. M.T. Banday, Dean Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Officers of the University, Prof. H. R. Naik, Prof. D.M. Makhdoomi, Prof. M.N. Khan and Prof. T.H. Masoodi, Deans of various faculties, Prof Massarat Khan, Prof S A Wani, Heads of Divisions, retired faculty members, scientists, research scholars, students, industry professionals and media personnel, science background intermediate standard students from nearby reputed institutes. 
Prof. Nazir Ahmad in his address appreciated the change in mind set of the students and the teaching faculty towards innovation driven and modern science led teaching, research and extension. Prof Ahmad highlighted the role of SKUAST-K in changing traditional agricultural practices of the region towards a more sustainable enterprise, and making Jammu and Kashmir a model of modern technology and innovation driven agriculture. Prof. Ahmad threw light on new education policy 2020, degree by design system of education, innovation and incubation policy of the varsity, internationalization of the education and revolutionary community outreach programs. He also stressed on originality, novelty and applicability of the research and education wherein quality research and creativity of the students, faculty members and nonteaching staff shall be respected and promoted.  He also advised faculty members for collaborative research and for better outcome. He also cautioned about the challenges lying ahead for realization of the dreams and explained in a polished way the way forward for achieving the intended targets. 
Prof. Ahmad appreciated the contribution of retired veterinary scientists for development of the veterinary faculty, and desired a renewed contributory effort from these stalwarts via various recently taken initiatives by the university. He also exemplified their resilience for a stronger veterinary profession. Prof Ahmad felicitated Dr Verma, Scientist Kansas State Agricultural University, USA for being nominated as honorary Adjunct Faculty to SKUAST Kashmir. He thanked Dr Verma for his support and guidance to the visiting Skuast undergraduate students during their two and a half month educational program at Kansas State University. 
Prof. M. T. Banday in his introductory address highlighted the achievements of the faculty in the areas of research, teaching and extension and thanked the university authorities for consistent support.
Prof. Azad Ahmad Ahanger, the organizing secretary of the event presented the theme lecture on “Strengthening Veterinary Resilience”.
During the event a good number of students entertained the audience with their melodious voice for which they received appreciation from Hon’ble vice-Chancellor who assured early identification of the talent through foundation courses, linkage with relevant experts and support by the University for their assured career. Meritorious and deserving students, teaching and non-teaching staff were awarded with appreciation certificates, mementoes and trophies for excellent performance in various sports, literary and miscellaneous activities.
Dr Sajad Ahmad Bhat presented the vote of thanks. Prof Abdul Shakoor and Prof. Sabiya Quraishi conducted the event proceedings.
