Amid absence of gynaecologist, Gurez's expected mothers switch to District hospitals before months

Bandipora June, 24: Expected mothers in Gurez valley of North Kashmir's Bandipora district have been left helpless in absence of gynaecologist as they move to District hospital Bandipora in advance for safe delivery of their babies. 
Arshid Ahmad, a social activist told Rising Kashmir that with 01 CHC, 02 PHCs, 07 NTPHCs and 28 Sub centres, pregnancy care is hit badly as the area has been without gynaecologist from years leaving expected mothers in severe hardships. 
 
He said that he is witness to many incidents wherein the health authorities of gurez have advised pregnant women to seek treatment in Bandipora hospital or in any other city hospital for their betterment. 
 
Suraya Begum, who is in her seventh month of pregnancy told Rising Kashmir that she is worried when she will be free from her pregnancy period. 
 
"I remember an Incident when a pregnant lady was dying with pain in my neighborhood and the people were helplesshelpless as it was snowing. Being pregnant is a big problem for us here", she said. 
 
Conceding that the pregnant ladies in gurez are going through troubled times, Block Medical office Gurez, Dr Tahira told Rising Kashmir that post of gynaecologist is lying vacant in gurez for which she had written to higher authorities several times but nothing happened. 
 
"We have been handling pregnant ladies by medical officers here but if any critical case comes to hospital especially in winter, it lefts us helpless", she said. 
 
She further said, "whoever we think will deliver baby normally are being treated here and those with hypertensive disorders are being referred to Bandipora district hospital in advance".
