Srinagar, July 05: The Amarnath Yatra has temporarily been suspended due to bad weather, officials said.
Due to bad weather conditions no pilgrim is allowed to travel towards the holy cave from either of the two base camps – Nunwan in the Anantnag district and Baltal in the Ganderbal district, said the officials.
They further clarified that the yatra was temporarily suspended for the safety of the pilgrims.
According to a news agency, a cloudburst caused by heavy rains led to flash floods in the Ganderbal district today. The floods led to the closure of the Srinagar-Leh highway.
Several houses were left inundated and some others were partially damaged in the floods.
As per officials, so far over 65,000 pilgrims have visited the shrine.
The officials informed the sixth batch of 6,351 pilgrims left for the shrine from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu in a convoy of 239 vehicles.
On Monday, Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha visited the Baltal base camp where he interacted with pilgrims and inquired about the facilities being provided to the pilgrims. During his visit, the LG also inspected a control room and oversaw the arrangements put in place for the holy journey.
