Allama Iqbal Library organisesnational seminar on Print Disabilities

Srinagar, June 27: Allama Iqbal Library organized a National Seminar in collaboration with J&K Handicapped Association, Khanyar, Srinagar entitled “Services and Opportunities in Technological Era for Print Disabilities (Visual Impairments, Learning Disabilities, Physical Disabilities)” in Ibn-Khaldun Auditorium of Allama Iqbal Library.
In her presidential address, Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir, Prof. Nilofer Khan congratulated the library for organizing the event for persons with Print Disabilities. She emphasized on creation of a full-fledged Centre for persons with the said disabilities. She ensured that a High-Level Committee shall be formulated that would deliberate upon the facilities provided to the persons with Print Disabilities and ensure a world-class set-up for them. She further ensured that the library shall be made a central focus where facilities for persons with special disabilities shall be taken care of.
Earlier, Prof. Peerzada Irshad Ahmad Shah, Librarian, welcomed the guests and informed the audience about the functioning of the library. He informed that the library has a well-set separate facility for the visually impaired students where students can browse with Large Print Keyboards and convert print text to electronic format so that they can listen to the books. He suggested that the University should have a separate rehabilitation centre for the students with Print Disabilities which is the need of the hour.
The proceedings of the seminar were conducted by Dr M. Ishaq Lone,Assistant Librarian, Allama Iqbal Library and the vote of thanks was presented by Uzma Qadri, Assistant Librarian, Allama Iqbal Library.
