Kulgam, July 15: A toll post outsourced to a private company and tasked with charging entry fee of vehicles has been sealed over allegations of overcharging,
On Thursday, a video went viral on social media showing the private company allegedly charging extra entry fees for vehicles arriving into Aharbal – a tourist destination.
Officially, upon arrival of vehicles, an amount of Rs 20 entry fee has to be charged for light motor vehicles (non-commercial). However, allegedly forged receipts with a cost of Rs 30 were billed by the company manning the  toll post.
This private company was given the contract in July 2019. A visitor brought this to the notice of the Aharbal Development Authority and they immediately visited the toll post and seized the forged receipts.
“The toll post stands sealed and inquiry has been ordered. In the presence of station house officer Manzgam, Naib Tehsildar, and an official from the Aharbal Development Authority (ADA), the toll post was sealed, and further necessary action will follow,” Javaid Ahmad, an ADA official told Rising Kashmir.
Also, the official said that a committee has been set up that has been asked to submit a report within 3-4 days.
