Agri Dept organizes training for Kargil women farmers

Srinagar, Sep 08: The Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal Wednesday inaugurated a training program for the progressive women farmers of Kargil district who are on an exposure visit to Kashmir Valley.
At the inaugural function, the Director welcomed the group of 60 women farmers and appreciated their participation in the training program.
During his interaction with visiting women farmers, Iqbal said that women empowerment and a skilled human resource in agriculture and allied wings is the Department's priority and to achieve this goal a multifaceted approach has been adopted by the Department.
He said that Kargil has special climatic conditions and the region is by default organic, therefore a special approach is needed to get the maximum returns in terms of production and productivity of different crops.
He asked the women farmers to go for integrated farming. “There is a great potential in mushroom, vegetable, barley, floriculture and other allied wings of agriculture wherein the farmers could not only earn a sustainable income but could also generate employment opportunities for the fellow farmers as well,” the Director said.
Later, the touring women farmers visited the Integrated Mushroom Demonstration Centre, Kitchen Garden, Quality Control Lab and Floriculture Development Centre at Lalmandi.
Joint Director Agriculture Inputs Farooq Ahmad Shah, Joint Director Apiculture and Mushroom, Mohammad Syed Peer, Seed Production Officer Kashmir were also present in the training program.
