Ganderbal, July 24: The Director-General Horticulture, Kashmir Ajaz Ahmad Bhat Saturday conducted an extensive tour of Ganderbal district during which he interacted with growers and advised them to adopt high-density technology for better yield and income.
During the visit, he took stock of activities being carried out in departmental nurseries at Kralbagh, Wusen and Tehsilbagh nurseries in the district.
The DG impressed upon the Chief Horticulture Officer, Ganderbal to make all out efforts to raise awareness about the modified high density programme, so that more growers come forward for adoption of the scheme. He said this will enhance their produce and income as well.
He advised the officer to ensure the speedy multiplication of the root stock of various fruit crops, so that the local growers don’t feel any difficulty during plantation season.
Bhat expressed his satisfaction over the work being carried out in the departmental nurseries and stressed for further improvement in the work culture of the employees. He also appreciated the employees for the efforts put in by them for the development of departmental nurseries.
During the visit, the Director-General had a detailed interaction with the growers of the area. He advised the growers to adopt modern technologies for carrying out farming activities to save the labour and input costs.
The private nursery growers were advised for plantation and multiplication of more apple and other high density rootstock locally, so that the cost of fruit plants is reduced and are made available to the growers easily and at cheaper rates.
Chief Horticulture Officer, Ganderbal and other officials of the department accompanied the DG during the visit.
