Srinagar, Nov 27: The 2nd Open Jammu and Kashmir Carrom championship concluded on Sunday here at Institute of Hotel Management, Raj Bagh.
Around 110 participants across J&K participated in this event and a total of 88 matches were played in Junior and the senior category in both boys and girls section respectively.
Mayor Srinagar Municipal Corporation Junaid Azim Matoo, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
The other dignitaries present on the occasion were Rauf Tramboo , Ex Member J&K Sports Council, Mudasir Khan ,President J&K Carrom Association, Adil Rashid Shah General Secretary J&K Carrom Association.
While speaking on the occasion General Secretary Jammu & Kashmir Carrom Association Adil Rashid Shah, thanked and welcomed Junaid Matoo, Rauf Tramboo, Mudasir Khan, Mrs Adfar Mairaj, Treasurer, Saqib, Arif Sultan and Dawar Rashid and all the office bearers of the association.
He also extended his gratitude to Shabir Qazi, Principal IIHM, Srinagar for providing space for this championship.
“I also am thankful to my colleagues, senior, junior players and officials for making this tournament a big success,” he said.
He added that they have organised the championship to boost the morale of sports persons for playing carrom.
“I want to convey my message to the parents and interested players that we have huge scope in this game but we need to take this game seriously,” he said.
In junior category boys, Arsalan won first place, Nazim secured second and Hashim third place respectively. While in junior category girls Ridha Madni secured first place, Sheikh Arooj second and Hafsa third respectively.
In senior men category Furqan Nazir secured first place, Aijaz Maqsood second and Adnan Afzal Bhat third place respectively. While in senior women category Sabira Feroz stood first place, Sharika Majeed second and Fiza Yousuf third spot respectively.
In the conclusion winners and runner ups were awarded with prizes, certificates.
