10 Food items that can lower blood pressure?

1. Berries - Blueberries and strawberries contain anthocyanins, which can lead to 8% reduction in high BP
2. Bananas – high potassium content decreases BP
3. Beets - high levels of inorganic nitrate cause reduction in BP, 1 cup of the beet juice every day had an average drop in blood pressure of around 8/4 mm Hg
4. Dark chocolate - .cocoa-rich chocolate (minimum cocoa content 70%) reduces BP in people with hypertension or prehypertension
5. Kiwis – bio-active substances and Vitamin C in kiwi helps lower BP
6. Watermelon - Watermelon contains an amino acid called citrulline, which helps the body to produce nitric oxide, a gas that relaxes blood vessels and encourages flexibility in arteries and thus decrease BP
7. Oats - Oats contain a type of fiber called beta-glucan, which reduces BP as well as blood cholesterol levels
8. Leafy green vegetables - Leafy green vegetables are rich in nitrates, which help to manage BP
9. Garlic – Garlic increases body’s production of nitric oxide which relaxes blood vessels and helps manage BP
10. Fermented foods - Fermented foods are rich in probiotics, which have a modest effect on reducing high BP
